GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co. (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD) rekindled the minds of their new batch of college scholars during the two-day development convergence seminar.
Dubbed Scholars Development Convergence, the seminar was held on October 10 and 11 at Mt. Tarak Guesthouse and Restaurant, Mariveles. GMEC Public Relations Officer Laurice Ann Zapanta said 45 beneficiaries were selected out of more than 500 applicants.
With the theme “Build the Future Today”, new scholars underwent training and activities on self-awareness, community engagement, and team building. Zapanta said scholars were inspired by the messages of the speakers during the Kwentuhan Session. Speakers were GMEC-GNPD AVP for Community Relations Arcel Madrid, GMEC-GNPD Stakeholder & Public Relations Supervisor Clarissa Bambo, education advocate and leader Gab Bautista, and PTV 4 anchor and mental health advocate Ruslan Kulikov.
The scholars were tasked to create project proposals for their chosen beneficiaries to be implemented by the twin power companies. Two proposals were chosen and allocated a budget of P50,000. Zapanta said scholars receive up to P60,000 per year allowance and up to P30,000 financial aid for board examinations. As the home to the largest coal-fired power plants in the country, GMEC and GNPD are committed to not only delivering reliable and affordable energy solutions to Filipinos but also empowering the community through social programs like college scholarship.
